Device Compatibility

EFTPOS Air can accept contactless payments and supports Point-Of-Sale (POS) features. The tables below specifies the minimum operating system and device requirements for each of these core functions.

Warning

Please note that EFTPOS Air is not supported on iPad, as it does not have an NFC reader.

1. Contactless payment support is dependent on a devices continued support from the manufacturer. Some devices on older Android versions may be supported providing they are running a recent security patch. Devices on newer versions of Android may not be supported if they are no longer receiving updates from the manufacturer. See below for details.

2. Your Android device should have a resolution of at least 480x800 and a physical size of at least 4" (10cm) diagonally. Smaller devices will still run EFTPOS Air, but certain screens might display incorrectly.

Incompatible Devices

EFTPOS Air will not run on:

  • Windows devices
  • Blackberry devices
  • Non mobile devices such as laptops or PC’s
  • Rooted or modified devices

Android Contactless Payments Support

If your device is not listed below, it may still support contactless payments if it meets the following requirements:

  • Has a recent security patch
    This means the device is still actively supported by the manufacturer
  • Running a recent version of Android
    Typically Android 14 and above
  • NFC (Near Field Communication / Contactless) support
    For example if your device supports Google Pay or similar
  • Up to date Google Play Services
    Your device must have Google Mobile Services available, and make sure the Play Store is up to date.
  • A hardware backed keystore
    Most recent devices that meet the above requirements will have this!
  • A 64-bit CPU
    All devices from major manufacturers are now 64 bit

Tip

If your device is from a less well known manufacturer, you should make sure that they're listed as a certified Google Play Protect partner at https://www.android.com/intl/en_au/certified/partners/

32 bit Telco devices

Some Telco branded devices (such as Optus or Telstra branded phones), often manufactured by ZTE, still use a 32 bit processor which is not compatible with Airpay TAP.
